This is French for "put in place." I had understood it on the most obvious level. Lay out the ingredients -- measured and prepped -- before you start, and as a result, while the meal doesn't magically make itself, it certainly goes a lot smoother. No more: "I need a tablespoon of flour. Where's the spoon? Where's the flour? Where the hell is the sieve?" It's a must for any professional kitchen and a boon for any amateur one.

STUDENT HOSTS - The Northwest High School student council is seking 400 families to volunteer their homes to host students attending the National Association of Student Councils conference at Northwest in June 2008.
